The next time that you experience a cold or the flu, remember this: giving your body plenty of rest while allowing the cold or flu to run its course is good for your health.

Most think that there is nothing you can do for the common cold except load yourself up with over the counter medications. These do help ease the discomfort by suppressing your symptoms. Unfortunately, this position represents a lack of understanding of what colds and flues really are, and what they mean to your body. Here are some understandings on why colds and flues, when resting and allowed to run their course, can be good for you.

By and large, the viruses that cause the common cold and the flu infect mainly your weakest cells. Cells that are already burdened with excessive toxins are most likely to allow viruses to infect them. These are cells that you want to get rid of, anyway, to be replaced by new, healthier cells. So in the big scheme of things, a cold or flu is a natural tool that can allow your body to purge itself of old and damaged cells. Embedded within all that mucous you are blowing out is countless dead cells and waste that your body is purging. It’s Nature’s way of keeping your body healthy over the long term.

Bacteria do not cause the flu and colds. If you take antibiotics and feel slightly better, it is because the antibiotic has a mild anti-inflammatory effect. But, antibiotics have a negative impact on the friendly bacteria that live throughout your digestive tract. Our digestive tract is a large component of our immune system and need those friendly bacteria to do the job effectively.

Giving your body plenty of rest while allowing the cold or flu to run its course can be good for your overall health.

Remember to always keep things in perspective. If you are compromised, stay with the advice of your physician.

Remember, creating health is a proactive job.
