February 7 2nd Annual Paws for the Arts
Suffolk Humane Society and Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront, 100 E. Constance Road, will host the 2nd Annual Paws for the Arts, a semi-formal gala, on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 7:00pm-10:00pm. The event will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres, a wine bar, a cash bar and live entertainment by local musicians and vocalists. A silent auction will precede a live auction with fabulous art, vacations, tickets to local theatre and sporting events, spa packages and much more. “We look forward to this year’s Paws for the Arts Gala topping last year’s hugely successful event. People had a great time bidding on one of a kind art and fabulous prizes. This is a wonderful way to make original art of all kinds available to the community and at the same time benefit Suffolk Humane Society's efforts to help the community,” said Rhonda Jones, director of events for Suffolk Humane. “We welcome additional sponsors and in-kind donors. If you are an artist, businessperson or caring citizen and want to make a difference for animals locally by donating items to the event, please contact us!” Event sponsorships for the gala’s program are available. Tickets are on sale for $50 each and can be purchased at the Suffolk Humane Society office, 4300 Nansemond Parkway; Mike Duman Auto Sales, 2300 Godwin Blvd, Suffolk or online at www.suffolkhumanesociety.com . New this year will be recognition of Suffolk Humane’s Pet Angels, a new sponsorship category for individuals or couples donating $100. February 7 Cat Fanciers' Association Cat Show
Fancy felines from around the country will have the opportunity to earn Top Cat status at the annual Cat Fanciers’ Association cat show sponsored by Pawprints In The Sand and Chamberlin On The Bay clubs. The show will be held on February 7, 2015 from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus, 12742 Nettles Drive, Newport News. The public is invited to the show as it will provide both an entertaining and educational day for spectators. In addition to judging activities which will take place throughout the day in six different rings, spectators will have the chance to see cats “up and close and in the fur” while they are waiting to compete in the ring. Owners are happy to answer questions about their cats, and some will have kittens for sale. A special feature of this year’s show is a cat-themed art show. Artisans, both local and beyond, will be displaying their work. Spectators will not only be able to purchase works, but they will have the opportunity to pick their favorite works with a $.50 per ticket donation. The proceeds of the voting process will be donated to help needy Hampton Roads cats and local arts groups. Additionally, Heritage Humane Society will have rescue kitties at the show competing that will be available for the adoption application process. Vendors will be selling cat-related wares of many types. Tickets will be sold at the door the day of the show. The cost is $5 for adults; $3 for seniors and children 6-12; free for children under 5. Please bring cat food, litter, towel, toy donations with you and they will be distributed to local rescue groups by the clubs.
